ElectriCritters at the Pueblo Zoo is on the way, and this year the zoo is making it even more memorable. The event now includes the Islands of Life building, all of its animals, and the S.S. Thatcher ship. When Santa is visiting, the zoo will have professional photographers taking Santa photos for free (with paid event admission, digital, available online).
The ElectriCritters season kicks off November 21st with a tree lighting ceremony and Gingerbread House contest. Gingerbread House contestants can register for the Gingerbread House contest at pueblozoo.org. Guests can enjoy holiday music with frolicking penguins while warming up in the EcoCenter’s Candy Cane Café.
New this year, Santa will be visiting every Friday (except December 28) in the Islands of Life building. Even if the weather outside is frightful, your visit with Santa will be delightful and wild with all of the Islands of Life animals to enjoy.
As is tradition, new ElectriCritters were commissioned by local donors and exclusively designed for the zoo by local artists, Richard Montano & Design Specialties, sculpted by the PCC SkillsUSA Welding Club, and installed by the “Critter Crew”, Lynne and Neil Wainright, and staff. ElectriCritters is made possible by major sponsors Black Hills Energy, Pueblo Electrics, Colorado Lottery, and Wagner Rents.
All proceeds raised from the event go toward the care and feeding of the Zoo’s over 500 animals. The event gives a boost to attendance which is crucial in helping the zoo make ends meet during the slower winter months.
November 21, 23-25 and 30; December 1-2, 7-9, 14-23 and 26-30. At the Pueblo Zoo, 3455 Nuckolls Ave., Pueblo.
