Co-ops Operate Under Seven Core Principles

There are seven core co-op principles that govern the activities of Colorado’s electric cooperatives, as well cooperatives around the world. These seven principles are a key reason that Colorado’s electric cooperatives operate differently from other electric utilities, putting the needs of their consumer-members first.

The second principle is: Democratic Member Control.

This principle is especially obvious this time of year, when Colorado’s co-ops are hosting annual meetings and conducting elections for their boards of directors. These directors are elected from among the local co-op’s consumer-members and represent the concerns of their neighbors, friends and family.
