Co-op Goes Greener with New Program

Members of High West Energy have a choice regarding the source of energy provided for their homes or businesses. The electric cooperative is offering renewablends, a renewable energy certificate program.

Currently, the power bought from High West Energy is generated from a variety of sources, with 76 percent from traditional sources such as coal and gas and 24 percent from renewable sources such as wind, solar and hydro.

The renewablends program offers members the opportunity to displace non-renewable sources (coal and natural gas) from the electric grid with renewable resources such as wind, solar and hydro-electric power.

For a minimal increase in the member’s electric bill, they can change the blend to 50 or 100 percent renewable energy, with the balance coming from traditional resources. For more information on this program, visit highwestenergy.com.

High West Energy serves electric co-op members in northeastern Colorado and southeastern Wyoming.
